Lookup Bulloch County Jail Inmates

Bulloch County Jail is the local detention center for Bulloch County, Georgia, and it is the first place to check when a person may have been booked after a local arrest. A Bulloch County Jail inmate search starts with the county jail roster, then moves to phone, records, court, or state correctional channels when the roster does not answer the question. The facility holds several types of jail inmates, so a lookup should separate recent booking records from state-prison custody and from older court records.

Bulloch County Jail Overview

Bulloch County Jail Operations is operated by the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office. The jail is the county jail and local detention facility for Statesboro and the rest of Bulloch County. It is not a state prison, even when a person listed there has already been sentenced to Georgia Department of Corrections custody. The sheriff's office is responsible for care, custody, and control of legally incarcerated jail inmates, and the public roster is linked from the sheriff's website.

The jail holds people arrested by the sheriff's office, city police departments, Georgia State Patrol, and other agencies when those people are kept locally. The population includes awaiting-trial detainees, county-sentence inmates, people sentenced to state custody but still awaiting transfer, and other local or agency holds. That mix matters. A current booking may appear on the county roster, while a person already assigned to a state correctional institution should be searched through Georgia DOC tools.

The official jail operations page is the best visual source for the county jail channel. The image below comes from the sheriff's Jail Operations page, which also links to visitation and inmate-money pages.

Bulloch County Jail Population

The strongest current county jail population snapshot in the research is the Georgia Sheriffs' Association Jail Report for May 2026. It listed Bulloch County Jail with 362 inmates and a primary jail capacity of 450, or 80.4 percent of capacity. The same report split the population into 213 awaiting trial, 57 serving a county sentence, 66 sentenced to state, and 22 in other categories. Those numbers describe the primary jail only and should not be merged with the separate Bulloch County Correctional Institution capacity.

The FY2025 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report gives a longer operating view: average daily jail population was 371 in FY2025, and 4,021 people were booked during that fiscal year. Older county budget material should be read by date. The FY2022 budget described a 400 capacity count after an FY2009 expansion, while the May 2026 statewide jail report used 450 as the current primary jail capacity figure.

Bulloch County Jail Roster Lookup

Use the sheriff-linked Bulloch County Current Inmates roster for people who may still be held at the jail. The same Interop portal also has a 24 Hours Arrests tab and an arrest-date view. The roster is free to view in the inspected sources, and no login or payment was observed. It is a jail custody and booking tool, not a court docket and not a state-prison database.

  1. Open the Current Inmates roster when the person may still be booked in Bulloch County Jail.
  2. Enter a last name, then add a first name if the result list is too broad.
  3. Check the 24 Hours Arrests tab if the arrest was very recent.
  4. Use the arrest-date tab when the known fact is a date range rather than a name match.
  5. Call the jail or use open records if the roster does not show the record needed.

The roster fields visible in inspected entries include photo, name, status, sex, arrest date, arresting agency, days in jail, bond, charge or statute, and court. Address was shown as redacted. Housing unit, booking number, court date, warrant number, and release date were not visible in the inspected public entries, so those details should not be assumed from the online roster.

Note: The roster count can change daily, and the June 4, 2026 snapshot differed from the May 2026 GSA count.

Bulloch County Jail Contact

For a current custody check, bond question, visitor question, or roster mismatch, use the jail's main sheriff contact channel. The sheriff FAQ also says reports can be requested in person Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For formal public records, the sheriff open-records materials name Emily Sims as Open Records Officer and list openrecords@bullochsheriff.com.

The public roster is useful for quick status checks, but the sheriff records channel is the better path for report copies, older booking material, or a record that does not appear in the visible roster. Costs and timing may depend on Georgia open-records rules and the scope of the request.

Bulloch County Jail Visitation

The sheriff site has an official visitation page, but the inspected research did not capture a complete public schedule, visitor ID rule, dress code, child-visitor rule, locker policy, or holiday schedule. Use the official page and call the jail before traveling. Do not rely on a third-party schedule unless the jail confirms it.

Bulloch County Jail Mail Money

The sheriff navigation includes an official inmate account funding page, but the research did not capture a vendor name, kiosk location, phone-deposit number, online deposit fee, commissary purchase limit, or refund rule. The same caution applies to mail. The physical jail address is known, but the inspected sources did not publish a full inmate-mail format with booking number, housing unit, mail-scanning rule, or publication rule.

For people who may have moved after sentencing, money, mail, and visitation rules can change with custody location. A person on the county roster follows jail channels. A person assigned to Bulloch County Correctional Institution or another GDC location should be handled through Georgia Department of Corrections channels.

Bulloch County Jail Intake

Booking starts when a person is arrested and transported to the county jail for local custody. The visible jail roster can show arresting agency, arrest date, charges, bond, and court. It does not prove final guilt, sentence length, or the final court outcome. A charge line is a booking or custody record. The court record that follows may be handled by Magistrate, State, or Superior Court depending on the charge type and stage.

Bulloch County budget material gives useful facility context. The FY2024 budget noted jail capacity expansion and medical-service needs, and the FY2025 budget retreat said the new intake and medical building was open and operating. Those facts explain local jail operations, but they should not be read as a promise that any specific inmate will be processed or released by a fixed time.

A person sentenced to Georgia DOC custody but still counted locally before transfer.

Bulloch County Jail Records

The roster is the fastest public lookup for current jail inmates, but it is limited. It does not show every field a requester may want, and the inspected entries redacted address information. For incident reports, older booking records, or records that need a formal response, use the sheriff's report request form or the open-records process. For court filings after an arrest, use the Clerk, State Court, Superior Court, or PeachCourt channels rather than the jail roster alone.

Georgia law also separates jail custody from state-prison custody. The sheriff has custody of county jail inmates under O.C.G.A. 42-4-4, while the Georgia Department of Corrections locator covers sentenced state offenders. The GSA count of 66 sentenced-to-state inmates in May 2026 is a useful reminder: some people may be sentenced to GDC yet still physically housed in the county jail at a monthly reporting point.
